Change, alter, adapt.

Change, alter, adapt.

I just had one thought when I read the title of the challenge for this month, though it has taken me some time to complete this piece. Fabric dyed on a NWCQ dyeing day some months ago, with calligraphy using my collection of dye pens, many of which are drying out. The drawing of the chameleon was achieved by bobbin work, my first attempt sewn over a layer of scrim.  An overlay of sheer fabrics, with quilting in rayon thread.

  1. Well done-a very interesting take on the subject. The bobbin work looks good.Is it something you will use again?

  2. How clever. I love it and the colours.
Not sure I will have time to produce a piece this month but would like to. It might be late.

  3. Thanks Hilary, yes it is something I would use again. The special bobbin was an indulgent purchase from Festival of Quilts this year. I had been wanting to try this for a long time, but hadn't wanted to send off for a bobbin without asking some questions first. The woman on the Brother stand was very helpful and talked me through what I required. The bobbin itself came with a CD which holds a very good manual. For once I was able to cope with the written instructions - not something which generally works for me. Thanks so much for your comment too, Irene.

  4. I am intrigued, what are you meaning by bobbin work, is it working upside down, obviously not when you say the bobbin came with a CD. I am wondering what the difference is in this bobbin compared to an ordinary bobbin, I am assuming it is the bobbin case or is it with a larger cut out or way of bypassing the usual means of thread tension so you can use unusual or thick or nobbly threads. But you say it is a bobbin you bought?

    1. Sorry, my error here. It is a new bobbin case which I bought, not the bobbin itself. You are quite right, Irene. It also has a different case lid for the bobbin housing. The work was done upside down with the design drawn on stitch'n'tear in reverse. I was able to use my ordinary bobbins, but the threading was different because the thread used is thicker than usual. Sorry to have confused everyone.
