Inspired by...........................

Inspired by the landscape paintings of Carry Ackroyd.

This particular image is based on a small section of this photo taken some time ago. One of many taken when I was lucky enough to have a ride in a hot air balloon. An experience I thoroughly enjoyed despite being rather nervous of heights.

The addition of the birds is a flight of fancy. I added them since Carry Ackroyd generally adds birds and animals to her own paintings. Techniques used: applique, free machine embroidery, with some bondaweb additions for the birds themselves.

In other words.......

Sorry, I got the title wrong. Mine is rather late due to my telephone and internet being out of order since just before Christmas. Hilary has very kindly let me use her computer to post my quilt.

I have used the phrase "Size doesn't matter". The fabric has first been sponged with Setacolor Opaque, then overwritten using a black marker pen. On top of this I have printed using some children's wooden letters. Over this has been laid a piece of sheer voile which has had free machine embroidered letters added. The voile has then been cut out using a soldering iron. Buttons in all sizes have been sewn onto the surface.

Size is not everything

This is Hilary's quilt. Unable to get her work onto the site, she asked me to do it for her.

Inspired by a Van Gogh exhibition poster, the stricken sunflower touched by the frost leans over whilst the daisy remains unaffected.

The fabrics used include net which has been machine embroidered.

Hot

This is my version of "Hot". As inspiration, I used some of the lovely photos which have been taken of the activity taking place on the surface of the Sun.

I started with a black piece of fabric which was then painted using Setacolor opaque fabric paints - using various shades of yellows and reds. Over this I have laid scraps of sheer fabrics and netting from fruit bags. Free machine embroidery has then been used over the entire surface, holding the sheers in place. A few beads have also been added.

It seemed appropriate to use the sun as inspiration especially since we are going through an unseasonal heatwave in this part of the UK.
